Zachary has been taking gym classes at Fun & Fit for a couple of years now. In fact, the first Fun & Fit class we ever took is where we met the Whitlach's and the Sweat's. Anyway, for whatever reason, the Fun & Fit schedule hasn't worked out for Mackenzie at all. Recently Kenzie has started asking about gym classes. And Zachary LOVES them . . . so we felt it was important to find one for Kenzie to try too. Research around town led us to Golden State Gymnastics.
GSG has a completely different feel than F&F. GSG is a competitive gym . . . so it looks like a real gym. It has a full bouncy floor in the middle with all the different elements surrounding. And it is BIG . . . probably 2 - 3 times the size of F&F. The feel of the program is different too. You can tell they are adding in real gymnastics skills even as they teach the toddlers. For example, this week we worked on matching our feet to the giant feet drawn on the ground (which put you in a lunge position) and then jumping around like that. F&F never really tries to incorporate gymnastic mechanics.
BUT, with all that being said, for now Kenzie is having a blast in class. Including Kenzie (who just joined 2 weeks ago), there are 4 kids in the class. Miss Heather the instructor is young & energetic & great at giving each child undivided attention in turn. They start each class bouncing on the long trampoline. Then they do a series of obstacle course like elements (bars, rings, bouncing, crawling, special steps, etc.). And finally finish up class with some sort of fun activity on the bouncy floor. Today Miss Heather laid out a bunch of hula hoops and we jumped through them dancing.
This may not be the perfect fit for the long haul (let's face it, Kenzie is going to be WAY too tall to be a gymnast), but for now I'm glad Kenzie has a gym class to look forward too.
